Northern Accelerator funding call – could your research lead to a new spin-out or licensing opportunity?

Do you want to be part of the next university spin-out success story? If you think the outcome of your research could lead to a commercial opportunity – Northern Accelerator funding can help you make that a reality.

Applications are invited for the third round of funding from Northern Accelerator, an exciting collaboration between four North East universities that is increasing the translation of world-class research into commercial opportunities. The current funding call will close on 31 July 2019, with a panel of representatives from each of the partner universities, alongside invited innovation experts, assessing applications in September.

Northern Accelerator is a partnership between Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria and Sunderland Universities and is funded by Research England. One of the programme’s initiatives provides £1.65m of funds to take promising new research outcomes closer towards commercialisation. Funding is available in two forms – feasibility awards and proof of concept awards.

Northern Accelerator has already provided funding to 20 academics across the four universities this year, investing over £670,000 to allow them to progress the commercial potential in their research.

For an informal discussion about making an application for a feasibility or proof of concept award, please contact your university’s technology transfer team. To find out more about what the funding can be used for, and the application process, visit www.northernaccelerator.org
